subs in the trunk?

Why do subs sound so much louder in the trunk than firing into the cabin. Is it because the trunk acts as an enclosure or what?

My favorite installs with a trunk have had the subs firing into the cabin...they were also IB, though //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

It's not always the case. I usually prefer the sound of cabin-firing subs as long as they are sealed off from the trunk.

Similarly, home theatre subwoofers typically sound best in a corner, as opposed to somewhere near the center of the room.

ported only gives you about 3 db's tops. i doubt that is the problem.

I think the amp isn't getting enough power.

To get a 3db gain typically you have to double your power. So having said that ported makes a huge difference.

Whats the one difference between this set-up and the last one? The box. Get those Arghs ported ASAP

I have worked with umpteen-million type arghs and they are really much better ported. They sound like *** in most sealed boxes as well as have the reduced spl.
