subs in the trunk?

well, i just used the 9 volt battery to see if every voice coil was in fact in phase, each were in phase. So this eliminates the theory of them being out of phase in any way possible.

My box is so big I gained a lot of volume by turning them around and facing them into the cabin. Hits much harder and clearer.
so your subs hit harder facing them into the cabin?

What's violent bass air. LOl. I have my theories but I want a answer. James you should know!
And OP.

Have you done what has been recommended?

We went through a lis of things last night.

and today several more suggestions were made.

1. Did you unplug one sub to see if the other became "louder" thus reconciling the cancellation possibility?

2. Did you check the load your amp is seeing? Making sure the subs are wired right?

3. Did you try a different CD? or even the radio?

4. Did you turn your box around. I think you should.
no, but how would they cancel each other out? Can you explain this a little more? There not out of phase, i already checked them internally and from the amp.

Just because your coils work is not an indication of being in phase.
i tested them with the 9 volt battery though. All voice coils pushed out instead of ******* in/ this means they are in phase internally as far as i am concerned. I'm not getting what you are saying.

Basically what I meant by it being louder with one unplugged is, when subs are out of phase they cancel each other out. Unplugging one would cause you to lose that possibility of them cancelling eachother out, thus giving it more output.

But if you did the 9 volt thing, cool.

I think you are suffering from the sealed enclosure conundrum. I didn't plot it out, but I hate to see what a 12" Type R's F3 is in the .85 cubic feet of airspace per 12 that Alpine recommends. I'll probably be back with some response curves in a little bit.....

this is fvcked up! I just turned my box around and it is no louder than when i had it sealed off. The only difference is the rattles are horrible. So now i am going to have to take the next 3 hours to put it back like it was, all this talk about facing them to the rear and not sealing them off will make them louder is a bunch of crap!!!

Wait, did you just contradict yourself or is my NyQuil kicking in?

before when i had my subs in the trunk, the whole **** rear end of my car felt like it was going to drop when the bass hit. And it hit harder, now with them sealed off they sound more balanced but i have to turn the gain to 75% for them to get decently loud. This shit sucks.
Please tell me what has changed?

ETA: If I am reading this right, then something is wrong when you say this:

I just turned my box around and it is no louder than when i had it sealed off.

I'm confused //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif If you are convinced it's none of the issues brought up in this thread, and it's not a wiring error or setting error on the amp, then port the subs or get new subs/amp. Or take it someone and let a pro look at it? Don't get pissed because a suggestion didn't work lol

I heard 2 Alpine Rs sealed, running off of just about the same power and they were plenty loud, so maybe check for installation issues.
