Why do subs sound so much louder in the trunk than firing into the cabin. Is it because the trunk acts as an enclosure or what?

does this happen because of cancellation? if it were walled off, would it sound similar to the subs firing at the rear of the trunk? Is because of the way the sound waves reflect and travel from the rear of the trunk.
so this is with your seats down and its walled off firing into the cabin?before when i had my subs in the trunk, the whole **** rear end of my car felt like it was going to drop when the bass hit. And it hit harder, now with them sealed off they sound more balanced but i have to turn the gain to 75% for them to get decently loud. This shit sucks.
It's called proper gain setting. And something else i am very confused about is the fact that turning my gains to 55%, which is where they should be setting them with the DMM, they don't get loud. In fact, you can barely hear them, it's like my sister's car can hit harder and she has a sealed 10 off 300 rms. I am running 2 freakin type r's with over 1400 rms to them and i can barley hear them at 55/62 volume on my head unit with the gains set to 55%? WTF? There has got to be something i am missing here.
yes, it's so quiet that i want to take a vid of it and show you guys how shitty it is. Rashadd, i did set my gains correctly man.so this is with your seats down and its walled off firing into the cabin?
