Subs gettin smelly :(

I know what clipping is, its not clipping (or at least not even audibly), and its the same as its been for months. I was playing songs that I play all the time, nothing unusual...i mean it'd be understandable if it was like really hot out and the subs were already hot to begin with, and I'd been beating on them for 45 minutes already (which I have had that situation many times in the past), but it worries me that literally after maybe 5 minutes of playing them in the cold and same songs i've played hundreds of times, out of nowhere they just get smelly as hell and my whole car smells like it instantly, so I turned almost all the way down right away
is it ur subs or another wire? one time my ground came loose and overheated a ton and thats what made my car smell. try ur speaker wires too. i would tell you to take the subs out and check the coils, but i remembered u cant:crap:

My old RE did this after 20 minutes of playing....stunk to HIGH heaven...

Your sending a clipped signal...and its starting to take a toll on the subs...//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

I turned my gain down from 1/2 to a little under 1/2 and it quit... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

i was going to say the same thing 'taking out the subs' maybe a wire from connecting to the terminals came a bit loose or something //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

yea idk its weird and i set gains with a 50hz tone so idk how i could be sending a clipped signal i wish i had a o scope
im tellin u the subs just ****. i could get mine smelly easy. now my audioques....//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

fvck it then i will just not worry bout it and if they blow then send them back they are under warranty still

yea i am wanting a pair of xxx's or mt's or something that can handle 2-2500rms a piece in the 12" range since i only have room for 2 12's

i didnt "blow" mine. they fvcker came apart lol. the voice coil came unglued from the cone:crap: of course it was like 105 outside and i did play it for a long time:D

meh, it was pretty loud tho.

to you man :] lol
yea my amp gets hot both kicker amps do but they are on the back wall of my truck with the bottom of the amp mounted to the back wall and the front side where the vents are are right against the back of the seat so there isnt no room between the amps and the wall or teh seat like the seat pushes right against the amp

there is imprints from the amps being right against the seats since that was the only spot i could mount them

Well I can check resistance on them, cant check the coils visually in any way though

That's a possibility cuz I didn't really spend any time on it cuz its night and raining and I didn't feel like dealing with it right now but I will tomorow, but I felt the dust caps real quick before I went inside and they were hotter than I've ever felt them (granted it was cold out, so by comparison they felt warmer) but still...so I really think it must've been the subs

I'm gonna try just not riding them as hard for a good 10-20 mins (like at almost full tilt but not slightly lower) and if there are no problems and they aren't getting hot, I'll turn it all the way up and see if this happens again, or they start to get hot to the touch.

I also just remembered noticing my voltage was a little lower than usual given it was cold out. Usually when its cold out, my alt charges at a steady 14.5+, if I turn the headlights on (which i did) it'll stay at more like 14.3. Today when this happened, it was cold out, with my lights on, and my meter was only reading ~13.8-9, and it seemed like it was dropping harder (lower than usual) on heavy bass hits.

I think first thing I need to do is make sure all connections are good, settings are all where they should be and nothin got played with
