Subs gettin smelly :(

I just went for a quick trip to the gas station, and in the 5 minutes on the way back my subs out of nowhere started smelling like burning coil //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif they've never smelled before not once, and I usually ride them hard as hell for 30mins+ at a time easy...they didn't blow or anything and dont seem to have any permanent symptoms but I'm just worried, cuz they've been fine for months off the same power, same settings on everything, and all of a sudden this

on top of that its cold out right now so...i'd think this is the least likely time for them to be overheating

my old mtx's did the same thing on a song and settings iv used for months too.

in my case it was because i was sending a clipped signal because i was turning my head unit up to high and asking too much out of my amp. basically ur subs dont move right because of the clipped signal so they dont cool properly for the wattage ur giving them. as long as u didnt see smoke or melt to much glue on the coil just turn ur amp down and make sure u dont push ur HU past 75%

my l7s always have a smell to them after a period of long time play and full tilt and i set gains with all settings at zero and 70% of my hu vol and used a 50hz test tone and dmm idk why they smell but they are ported so maybe they give a smell anyway

i put a dmm on it during music and it goes up to 66volts or so for a split second on low notes is that ok with a dmm i set it to 54 i recall most of the time its 54 or below on music

it all depends on your amp...what is the rms? find that then get the chart...its on here somewhere...and find your voltage

I've noticed there is a semi distorted song on the new cube cd. Downloaded music is the worst for this. torrents are usually better.

Run through all your settings, make sure no one has fiddled around with your ish.

1500@2ohms birthsheet says 1664 but i set it already for 1500rms with a 50hz test tone but on some songs it peaks up to 66-70 for a split second so i guess thats alright

I know what clipping is, its not clipping (or at least not even audibly), and its the same as its been for months. I was playing songs that I play all the time, nothing unusual...i mean it'd be understandable if it was like really hot out and the subs were already hot to begin with, and I'd been beating on them for 45 minutes already (which I have had that situation many times in the past), but it worries me that literally after maybe 5 minutes of playing them in the cold and same songs i've played hundreds of times, out of nowhere they just get smelly as hell and my whole car smells like it instantly, so I turned almost all the way down right away

both my l7s smelled on low notes. they are sucky subs.
