Subs gettin smelly :(

what about cold air being more dense?
maybe it seemed louder because the air in your car was more dense due to temp?

and is it possible that this created more strain on the sub?
Not sure I'm following what you're getting at, did I say it was louder? Either way the cooler temp should have great cooling effects and I'd expect the sub to perform better all around, usually its played in 80-100 degree weather after my car has been sitting out in the sun for 4 or 5 hours, never had a problem

Misunderstood the "dropping harder" from your previous post

what I was shooting for was: due to the air being more dense, the subs would have to work harder to move it. I don't know if this is viable, but just a thought. More difficulty moving the air might cause less excursion and in turn hinder the sub's cooling.

maybe one of the gods will chime in and tell us if this is possible??

Well, that does happen, also cold parts like the suspension and surround wont move as freely, but I've always assumed the benefits of the cold air around the coil far outweigh that, otherwise people would be heating their surrounds and suspension while cooling the motor and coil in between burps instead of just trying to cool the coil, or they just would let it warm up naturally and not try to cool it, imo

only other thing I can think of is it was rainy, and window down, and possibly the moisture in the air could have been affecting it? idk...

well I went and checked everything, looked all good, went easy on it for a while, and then all out again, sub is reaching moderate temps as I'd expect it to (as in not a problem, the way it usually does, not like last night), so I think I'm good...I just hope this doesn't happen again //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif especially with my setup...I'm bein stupid pushin it cuz if they blow I have to return my trunk back to normal pretty much...or at least rebuild half the box which i dont intend on doing...ah well...at least it seems everything is just fine, i still dont knwo wtf caused that last night though...

what kind of subs you got? i had a problem similar to that not long ago.

idk about u guys, but to me burned coils have a very distinct smell. not to be confused with a loose ground or anything of that nature.

id say it has something to do with the cold air. maybe they were just a little stiff from the cold and that threw something off. idk, just throwing possibilities out there.
