Sub VS. Component amp

I got me an amp.. Emphaser EA2190.. 2x180 rms @4ohm(German amp).. I planned to run my Alpine R Type components with it,but a friend told me that the amp was made for subwoofers,and not for speakers.. He says it will have a harsh tone,and will not sound good..

My question is: Is that truth? I mean.. How can a amp be made for this or for that? I though that the only thing that matters is RMS power,always thought that the speakers give out sound,and the amp only need to ''feed'' the speakers..

Can somebody make this a bit clear? Should i sell this amp and get in a search for another or what?

I'll bet his friend did a google search like I did and saw that most people in Europe were running this particular amplifier on their subwoofers.

If it is a full range amp, the OP can use it to power components with no problems. As for it being harsh, we all know from the Sham Wow commercials that the Germans make good stuff:laugh:

I dont really know what does ''full range amp'' mean.. Or the ''OP''.. Sorry =( If u can clear that up a little,i learned my english while watching The Simpsons (doup) and i dint really see an episode about full range amps and OP's.. =))

OP= you (original poster)

Full range= An amplifier able to produce a full range of frequencies. you then can use wither your LPF (low pass filter) if using subs to filter out the high frequencies or your HPF (high pass filter) to filter out the low frequencies (which you will do in your case)

Your amp is fine, great even. Your choice in components is another story.

Yes the amp is full range.. It has the HPF LPF filter or u can just turn it off.. I have a Pioneer Deh P88RS HU,so i am going to turn filters off on both my amp,and turn them ON on my HU.. Is that a good idea? HPF at 80hz,and LPF at 80HZ.. So the mids play the tones over 80,and the sub until 80hz?

As for the components,my brother is an official Alpine Dealer,so i have them in a very good price..

Main problem is that my country is the crapiest country in the world.. For example.. I Work for about 200-250 dollars a month,and in USA u earn that amount of money in what? 3 days lol..

And the prices.. For example.. Alpine 9887 HU costs about 530 dollars,and in USA it costs 230 dollars.. Not to say about the stuff that we import from USA.. Those body building suplements.. Whey proteins and stuff.. I watched a show 2 days ago.. A suplement that costs about 20 dollars in USA,costs about 80 dollars in Serbia..

The point of the story is,sure i know R Type components are not the greatest choice (if its up to me i would the Phase Linear) But they are the best for the money i can afford..

My main ''worry'' was is the EMPHASER EA2190 amp compatible with them.. =)

Type-X pro's would be very nice

Even the Type-X refs are a big step up from the R's.
