Basic system. Basic question. One can ascertain from the information supplied I am only looking for sound reinforcement - I am not into competition or any other shenanigans.
Transferred the following from my 96 Honda Civic to my 94 Olds 98:
12" Bostwick DVC & a sealed box sitting in the trunk. (don't laugh - it has worked well enough for me over the years)
Old school Rockford Fosgate 75.2 (circa 1997)
The sound is very muffled in the Olds trunk. I can hear the sub straining to make sound. As soon as I pop the trunk the full sound that I was used to in my civic comes back (inside and outside). I know that the olds is more luxurious and a lot of engineering went into reducing road noise whereas the civic had much more road noise. This Olds is virginal - no mods and everything is practically mint. I would prefer not modifying the car if at all possible.
So how do I get the full sound back?
Do I need to use a ported box?
Will I need to remove sound insulation behind the back seat?
Is there a way to "vent' the trunk?
I have a pair of older kicker 12's. Should I just throw a bigger box and more speakers at the problem?
I have removed the rear deck 6x9's hoping that would allow the sound to penetrate the cabin - no luck.
