Sub stopped hitting, trying to figure out what happened...

So for the last few days my system hasn't seemed as loud as usual, and I thought maybe only one sub was hitting, but I never stopped to check until today.

So it turns out one was not hitting at all. I checked the connection at the amp and both the RCA cables seemed fine, so I just removed the sub from the box to check the connection on the inside. I made sure all the wires were connected and then I turned my HU on and still, no sound from it.

It doesn't appear to be blown at all. No sign of damage or burning, cone still connected to spider, tinsel leads securely connected, etc... I have no idea what it could be.

Anyone have an idea?

switch the rca's around see if it happens still. Then try to switch the speaker wire.

Check the coils with a DMM.

Alright, what should I set the DMM to and what reading should I get? It's DVC 4 ohm

The coils will probably read 3.5 or near that. Set the DMM to measure ohms.

If you get some crazy reading that isn't near 4, then something is fuxxored with a coil, or both coils.

Correct. Have the sub completely unhooked from power. You could also try a 9 volt battery on the terminals of the speaker. The sub should move when you connect it to the terminals.

Alright, well my dad is on the way home now and he has the DMM so I should have about 15-20 mins with it before I have to leave for work, so I'll try that. I have pretty much narrowed it down to the sub because it is not the RCA or the amp channel. This sucks...

VERDICT IS IN...

So I either get a replacement, or use this as a sign that it's time to go with something else...

Indeed.

I'm about to have some fun though. I'm gonna free-air the remaining voice coil (100 RMS) at 400 watts with some Jeeezy and bass boost, video it, and hope something fun happens.
