Sounds like bass boost to me -- which you don't need IMO.
The SSF cuts off the signal below whatever frequency it is set. It's used when you have a ported box, especially one that is tuned high. It will indicate a range of frequencies on the dial.
The bass boost increases the signal of a certain frequency -- you don't need want to use that.
