Sub Size or Sub amount??

About 3 months ago while reading an article by a so-called Leader in high end car stereo system design I read something that seemed a no-brainer, yet I had never applied it to my system designs. Basically what increases your systems sound in SPL and SQ is the addition of speakers...NOT MORE POWER. I guess this is a battled topic but it is a fact that 400 watts on a pair of seperates will not be as loud or clean as 200 watts on 2 pairs of seperates...BUT

Does this theory apply to SUBS!!!

I had teased the idea a long time ago of putting 4 8" subs in the rear portion of my Extended cab, Yet in the 1990's Woofer size was the same as penis size and everyone demanded to go bigger. Recently I have noticed a swing towards MORE SUBS but at less inches? These Systems are high end and sound truly amazing.

So after rambling..my question is

"Am I better of with 4 8 inch subs or 2 10's?" and Why?

Well, truley, I say 12 - 15 " but NO BIGGER!! Any bigger than that, the power is wasted through the magnets to push the heavier cone. More is better, always. Power increase into a sub only raises volume very little. The more subs at the same power will increase because EACH sub is gettin the SAME power, as adding more power to a single sub only increases loudness slightly.

I have four subs, 2 10's, 2 8's. Recently one went out on me, an I notice A HUGE!! diffrence in sound loss. Even tho all of my others ones are getting and still gettin the same amount of power as the onther one, volume dropped monsterously!

So after rambaling... My answer is..

"YES, you are better off"
