does it matter which way you face the sub? for example, lets say i face my subwoofer facing up, would it hit softer than having it facing towards the back?

Turn your box different ways and see which way suits your needs. It shouldnt make a difference sound wise.

It also depends on the acoustics of your vehicle. you just gotta play around with it to see what hits good
