Sub playing loudly at low volume

I recently installed my sub and amp to my Jeep. I tapped into the factory wiring to bring the signal to the amp from the rear left speaker, Thru the high level input. Anyways At low volumes even at 1, 2, 3. I hear the bass hitting. and what it seems like is it stays playing at that one volume if i turn up the music it will eventually turn up the interior speakers but the bass will stay the same. I mean it sounds great but it doesnt seem like the volume at the head unit is controlling the bass its just that the bass is hitting loudly at all times unless its muted.

this is a factory head unit I am using btw.

Could it be that I need to tap into the front speaker signal? maybe that could be it? any input would be great

A more efficient way is to hook that thing up in the back of the head unit using the left and right speaker wires from there. I find it alot easier doing it this way. Hooking it up to your speakers means your going to have to run speaker wires from the speakers through each door.

I am only using a sub. Im not running a 4 channel amp for speakers.

Also. I will check the ground. but could that affect why the amp is not changing volume period? its playing loudly at all volumes, which is not so bad cause its usually up. But when I start the car in the morning with the remote start its kind of annoying to hear inside

It is most likely a poor ground. Where do you have the amp grounded?

Its grounded to this bolt comming out from the sheet metal of the car. It was the closest thing to the amp. but maybe I should move it somewhere else?

ding ding ding. Theres your answer. Ground to the frame of your car, not any metal thats attached to it. Sand off paint, and make your own bolt.

Will doo.. ... quick question.

Since its only a sub I am using. is it bad that I have a high level input rather than RCAs?

So i got osme steel wool and moved the ground after going at it to the bare metal. Still no luck. I did this towards the liftgate in the trunk. Still no luck. should I move the ground elsewhere again? or could it be something else?

If I was you I would get a Line Converter and tap into both the Left and Right Speaker and use RCA's.

Yeah thats next. But I think this system is not wired properly. So much for me trying to DIY. Its draining my battery. I think at least? Since Ive disconnected it My car is starting fine. Could It be my ground was not correct?
