my buddy just bought a new JVC KW-AVX710 and now his sub is no where near as lound as it was with his older headunit. They both had 2.5volt pre-outs. His older one had a dedicated sub/non-fading. does that actually make a difference.

Not familiar with that unit, but read through the manual. There may be a option somewhere in the radio to select the rear preout to a sub fuction.
