Sub makes flapping noise

My subs been hooked up for a good 2 weeks and when it's turned up somewhat halfway it makes a flapping noise when it hits hard. I mean I'm not over powering it. It's in a .9 cu ft box powered by a and 9601 wired at 1 ohms. It's a nvx vcw 12 1000w RMS and it's not even seeing all 1200w of the amp. It sound perfectly fine unless the trunk is open

Gain is set about 75-80% no bass boost and bass on head unit is on 11 out of 15. Low pass is through. But even if I mess with the lpf and hpf it still makes the flapping noise.

Stinger 4gauge kit. Install was done by a local shop so it I'm hoping install isn't the problem

I think all my problems are in the box. It's only .85 counting sub displacement because that's what the local shop did, because they would only go buy manufacturer's specs. If the gain is anywhere over half way it makes the flapping noise and the sub puts out pretty much no **** bass unless it's turned at least 3/4 way up. It's not clipping when turned 3/4-all the way up but the flapping noise makes me think I'm killing the sub. Should I get another box built?

Sounds like a bird got into the box while you had the sub out and got trapped in there. Happens a lot...

Pull the sub out. Push up on the cone to see if there's an issue

Will do. But you guys thinks a bigger ported box will help get more out of it. I don't like the idea of turning the gain almost all the way up to be happy. For comparison my kicker CVR got **** near just as loud.
