sub crossover frequency & dead spots

I just installed twoPhoenix Gold RSD12D subs in 1cu. ft sealed enclosures each getting 450 RMS from an Orion 9002. My last setup was two Boston Acoustic 12" rally series subs in a 1.5 seale box getting 300 RMS each. The PG's don't hit nearly as well as the BA's and they are getting much more power. Also it seems there are dead spots in the mid bass. Say maybe between 80-100hz and 200-300hs. One of the problems is that I can't turn the bass up to much or the components will pop. So I am thinking that the LPF on the crossover (Audio Control 24XS) is set to low. Seems like most set it between 60 and 100. First how can I tell what it's crossed over at now and would it sound like crap if I went to 110 or even a bit more? I figure it would save the components a bit from trying to push that low frequency. Thanks.

seems like your box is small for your 12s. midbass if not the subs' job. that's the mids' job. but i dont know how your setup is like so that may not apply to you but generally thats how i see it. you shouldnt have the ssf on because you're using a sealed box. lp should be somewhere around 80hz for your sub. hp should be 80hz and up for your mids and highs. if you can hear the gaps, i think your hp is a bit too high.

any more info on the amps and the head unit you're using?

I agree it's not the job of the subs but it's really awful. What is "ssf"? It just seems like my subs dwarf the tiny 6.5" woofers. After the crossover cuts the subs everything over the cutoff goes to these tiny speakers that don't have near the capability of a sub. I even built enclosures for the rear Orion mids and it sounded like crap. I had to drill holes all around it to let the air move. I am just looking for a good tight response from the midbass. The amps are both Orion 9002's. I have MB quart components in the front and Orion P6.2's in the rear. I am running one amp bridged for the components (225W RMS ea.) and the other in normal stereo to my DVC subs so they are seeing 225W RMS per voice coil. The head unit is an Alpine CDA 7894.
