Sub/Amp Help

Bad for the speakers or amp? my plan was to move the amp inside to power my sub inside. It'd give me plenty of output at 4 or 2 ohms to power any sub I wanted. I am using a Punch right now, it makes this crazing buzzing sound that I can only get to go away temporarily by wiggling the power input terminal. (it was doing this in the car it was in too, its not my power source.)
But a clean 2-3k is up around $300(on the low) and I don't have it ATM.

EDIT: I reread that and it was confusing.

So, I have a Punch hooked up to a JL inside my home with my home theater ATM. My plan was to move the Alpine amp inside when I get a new amp to power my sub inside because the Punch makes this crazing buzzing sounds from the power input terminal.
bad for amp, normally when the company specifies you not to do it, its for a good reason. You might have something loose in that amp.

That is exactly what it does. I was running 50-55V at 2 ohm, and it cut to 30-40V at 1 ohm. I can't say the exact wattage because I don't have a clamp, but the voltage drop on the speaker wire was evident.
Can't judge off that. Don't work that way. Amperage could go up, you don't know.

Box is way to small. Double that size and you will gain big time
I wouldn't be able to fit it in my trunk. Its a pretty big box, I suppose I see some boxes on here with just 1 sub that the box is about my size. But the specs are to each chamber, so its a net 1.25FT^3 per speaker, 2.5FT^3 between the two. I need bigger? I'll build one, but the funds are dry right now.

At least 2cu per sub net. 2.5 if you can.

You have enough for a good pair of 8s

I pulled it apart and it was all nice and clean looking. None of the resistors or caps had any discoloration. The circuit board looked like it was in nice pristine condition. I checked the solder on the input terminal and it all looked okay.

Really? man, the speaker specs said 1.25 so that is what I did. I could fit a 2 maybe even a 2.5 (with no trunk space), and I could have gotten the same box, but bigger, for like $3 more. It does sound night and day different than the box I did have. I'm just trying to compete with my door speakers at max volume which when listening to rock and metal, it sound fantastic, even kick the bass down a lil, but hip-hop and rap is underwhelming. It vibrates everything pretty good, I barely use my rear view mirror because I always have to adjust it. My side mirrors are hard to see out of, and it make my arm hair stick up. I got a lot of head hair, so it just kinda moves that.

It was also a lot louder when I had it facing away from the windshield, but I didn't like it for Rock and Metal.

You need to think in the long term man.
I was talking about the Punch. I have never pulled the Alpine apart.

IDK it just doesn't even really get warm. You still think it could cause some future problems? I'll probably get a amp next for safety before I do my sound deadening and processing now. But how much is a decent 2-3kw 1 ohm stable amp? I'd likely only be able to muster up $300 if that.

you can get a soundqubed q 2200.1 used for that price. Or you can find some D2 type Rs locally and make a trade.

It will be much better. Tune 32-35 and it will play everything

Is that a good brand and nice and clean? I assume it is a good brand, I've seen them mentioned quite a bit around here. How much do you think my amp could go for? I forget how much a Paid, but probably too much.

EDIT: $450ish brand new, I'm sure I could find it used... Just need to come up with some $$$. Bonus time is July, so maybe it will be lucrative. We can only hope.

I've been trying to do that for months //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

I am tuned to 35Hz right now per the subs specs.

Start with a bigger box first, that's what will make the biggest difference as far as output. For all you know, you may be able to rewire to 4 ohms and be happy with it.
I'll do both, I'm actually going to build a box, I got a buddy that would likely let me use his tools. And I couldn't be happy at 4 ohms because I'd always know I could go louder //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

It will be different with more airspace. I think you will be happy for a while

One thing a time, box first. You'll be going from alleged 800w to 650w while improving efficiency. Worth a try, nothing to lose. Keep the amp for now, don't be in a rush to spend money. Build the bigger box first, see how that goes.
