better replacement sub

I have a rockford fosgate enclosure P3S-1X12 but I blew the sub. I wasn't happy with it anyways so I want to know if I can replace it with a better one that will fit the box and my amp which is a Kicker 10DX500.1

the old sub was dual coil 2 ohm and the amp is 500 watt rms at 1 ohm

There's a lot of subs that are better. But I think you may have blown the sub from clipping

What are the settings on your amp set to? (gain, bass boost, etc)

3/4 gain and bass boost was on.

but this is besides the point. my brother blew the sub months ago and I just lived with it until it finally gave way listening to music full volume for 3 hours on the highway with the windows down.

regardless, I still want a higher quality sub that will hit lower notes

Never use bass boost, and with 3/4 gain, you probably were clipping the schit out of it.

Do you have a budget for this sub? If you want to just look at brands, everything at ssaudio.com as well as B2, C2, CT sounds, Digital Designs, Tantric, TC-sounds, Dayton, Stereo Integrity (used in both HT and car audio). There's other stuff, but that's the majority of the stuff everyone here runs. Probably accounts for 99% of all the subs people run here.

On a side note, bass boost is fine to use as long as you don't clip the signal and you like how it sounds. A lot of amps come with bass control knob and in some cases it is a bass boost with 45Hz as the center frequency and in other cases, it acts like a gain control. Some knobs come with clipping indicators, which is very helpful.
