Streetbike Selection

I was sitting daydreaming about getting a streetbike. soon after, i realized i don't have a clue where i would even start when it comes to what i would look for. Something that runs good and looks good would be my top concerns, not looking to race or w.e. so speed is not a top concern (but it would be nice to have something faster then my slowass cougar). i would prob buy a used one also...

Anybody have any recommendations of what brands at least? Ducati, Kawasaki, Honda, Suzuki are the first things that come to mind. A lot of people around here have jigsers.

If you have the money Ducati. If you are like me then a 2001 - 2003 Suzuki GSXR 750. I like the older ones because they still had the natural aluminum finish on the frames (easy to polish), the newer ones are black. The 750 because its almost as light as a 600 but with almost the power of a 1000.

If he is asking about his first bike, and knows nothing about bikes, why the hell are you idiots suggesting a Gixxer 750? OP, I would say go for a Ninja to start out on, a 250 is a good starting bike, but if you want something that will last longer than one summer, get a Ninja 500.

Ninja 500s seem to hold their value very well, especially around college towns with students looking for a commuting bike //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

One key piece of information mentioned is the size of the OP...

6crnbnh : you say everything is gay. snoopdan, don't see your posts near as much so i cant say much. 4oz never heard of one of those but not sure it seems like a step up from a starter bike

JimJ: I'm 6'1 and 170. between you and micah_jones, seems like a ninja would be a good pick. they seem cliche but i guess for good reason. it would be a awhile before i got one. i hope to have one by the time i'm living off campus to get around. want to buy a new car before hand though. like i said, its a distant dream but good to have some idea of what i would do if i get in a position to

Nah, snoop usually identifies the gayness first, then I chime in for effect. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

And we are just messin' with ya bro...calm down.

For the record, I don't know a damn thing about motorcycles...as a former firefighter, I have been on scene at way too many accidents involving them, some of which would have been more than survivable if the driver/rider was in a car...messy, nasty, and very, very dead....no helmet = brains all over road....helmet = broken neck...either way, doesn't seem worth the risk. I'm just sayin'.

2x on the reality. Had a buddy whom hit a rut on I-65 on his bike, and flipped over 4.8 million times. Dude is all fucked up in the head now, repeats himself for no reason alot. Slurs speach all the time, doesn't remember long term.

I understand. First off let me say i wasn't totally serious myself on address the gayness.. as for the injuries i've heard all about it..it's scary stuff. i appreciate the sincere opinions. you wouldn't catch me without a helmet, esp driving anywhere more then 15 mins away but still I understand accidents do happen even with them on. If I had one, i'd do everything i could to avoid any damage. and of coarse no wheelies or racing and all that bullshit my peers form high school are doing now....

Not trying to prove anything to you guys with that ramble up there^^ js. again thanks for the thoughts
