stock audio stinks

Sup everyone. I'm glad there is a decent message board for car audio because I don't know too much. Hopefully someone can help. I have a brand new 2003 Subaru WRX. It came with the "upgraded" audio system. Well stock must be a real POS, because the upgrade is garbage too! Anyway, do any of you have a wrx? Do any of you know anyone with one or know what works best? Here's what I want:

decent head unit (I understand i'll lose the stock 6 disc changer)

replace factory door speakers with decent brand

possibly add an amp

figure out what to do with the subwoofer

I do not want anything too expensive, nor do I need and fancy fiberglass custom boxes. Just stuff to go under a seat or in the trunk. I'm looking for decent volume that I can hear well with all four windows down or while washing the car, bass on occasion when I'm in a hiphop mood, and crisp clearness when I'm not in that mood. Too much trebel hurts my ears, but too dull and flat annoys me. I lease the car, so door speakers arent a probelem and Im willing to take the risk but the 6 disc changer might be a problem. Can anyone suggest options for if I replaced the head unit with changer AND if I kept it in? Thanks you so much!

as for the hu. get a wiring harness for ur car... probably in circuitcity or look online, this way if u need to turn the car back u only switch hu´s and theres no cut wires or anything.

as for the rest of the stuff. im sure if u look around this forum long enough ull find out what u need and want. a sub is no big problem.

Thanks X5. I'll look into a wiring harness. How exactly does it work? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/cool.gif.3bcaf8f141236c00f8044d07150e34f7.gif

its just an adapter that plugs into the normal plug that would go into your stock system. So this attaches onto that and on the other end....you match up the wires with the ones that come with your new head unit.

Good headunits include Alpine, pioneer, and kenwood (IMO). I have a kenwood mp919, love it!

Im rather new to these forums to, and to not humiliate myself i did alot of searching on these forums (sucks that you cant search for words with less than 3 letters (or 4), but ohhwell). There is a wealth of knowledge here, and thanks to these cats I am getting a kick *** setup!

Ill post it in my signature when i get it all hooked up...
