Stereo was stolen while at the getting repaired...

found out today that in order to get a lawyer to handle this, it would cost me $1500...looks like I'm just gonna have to take a loss on this. I highly doubt the cops around here will find anything.
Unless you do your own investigating don't count on the police to be much help. Trust me, I've been there, done that. At least our tax dollars get us speeding tickets! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/mad.gif.c18f003ab0ef8a0d9c27ca78d77a6392.gif

I also hope you have an itemized list of everything that was in your car with the appropriate documentation for insurance purposes. If you don't have documentation they'll give you a Sony Xplod to replace that XXX and give you the story of "it's a subwoofer, just like your other one". //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

You don't need a lawyer to take them to court. File your case through People's Court (can be ruled on for amounts up to $5000 usually). You can represent yourself. They deal with bad business deals/practices all the time.

i had an entire car stolen while it was in for some work at a dealership (infiniti)... from right in front of the showroom window...

don't know about other states (i'm in new jersey), but unless it specifically states that they ARE liable, they aren't... the only way they would be liable here is if the car was locked inside their shop...

my insurance company paid for the car, and my homeowner's insurance paid for what was in it... and since they don't like to pay out unless they absolutely have to (and this was a 6 month old j30), it's safe to say that there wasn't any way that they could figure out a way to make the dealership liable (although they DID spend 2 months "investigating" before they finally paid)...

ymmv.

Sounds like an inside job and the thief or thieves had plenty of time to work with. I'd pursue the shop and speak to the insurance company just in case they failed to cancel as requested. Also I'd be checking craigslist, ebay and local pawn shops--might get lucky...grab the receipts or boxes with serial numbers to use to show ownership. Goodluck
Yeah, definently look on eBay. My friend's brother stole a ton of watches from the watch shop he worked at, then put them up on eBay. The owner looked for them on eBay and guess what he found......

Well I got a call from the shop's insurance co. today, to get information on what was stolen. I was very surprised to get the call. The insurance adjuster proceeded to tell me that if the equipment that was in my car was worth 75% of the value of the car...they would have to TOTAL the car //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif. It's a '96 Maxima GLE w/ 190,000, I'll be able to buy it back from them for 5-10% of the value...which will be taken off of my claim check. If I'm not mistaken, won't my car have a salavge title if this happens? If was going to sell my car within the next yr, so I'm kinda worried about even claiming this stuff. Also, since my sub enclosure wasn't bolted to my car its not covered...which was the least expensive thing that got stolen...I would much rather get the money for my Kenwood DVD Double DIN and my MD3D. They are also going to include the price to replace all of the dash pieces that were broken, in the claim.

Am I to worried about having a salvage title on my car, if I'm getting $2000-$2500 back?

So what do you guys think I should do now?

Claim everything, possibly have my car totaled and have a salvage title...or just forget about everything, so when its time to sale the car I won't lose money...

Just wondering if anyone has ever had this happen. I took my car yesterday to get my A/C compressor replaced and freon installed, I got a call this morning @ 8am saying I needed to come to the shop. When I got there the cops were there, and the owner tells me my car had been broken into. No broken windows, factory alarm wires were cut, EVERYTHING was gone...Double DIN Kenwood HU, MD3D, yellow top, beloved '05 XXX w/ enlcosure, and they even cut my 2 runs of 0ga Stinger HPM from the battery, pulled back my interior trim, and removed it from the car. 3 cars were broken into, including an employee's. All the cars were inside the fenced in area on the side of the shop.
The shop is pretty new, but they have done quite a bit of work on my car lately. They just put up the "not liable for theft or vandalism" signs, and had some fresh printed ones in their office.

Just wondering what you guys think I should do, or what I can do...I'm out at least 2-3K. The cops told me, that they actually recover lots of stolen equipment within a few days. I find that VERY hard to believe, so I'm not expecting a phone call w/ good news
wow ****'s to be you

Also does your gear shift have to move back to get your radio out of the dash? In a lot of vehicles they do ...if so keys had to be in the ignition to do this.....//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif
x2 thats a good argument, because i had a 95 maxima and you do have to move the gear shifter. So obviously that means they had the keys.

don't those have a tab in the shifter console that you can press with something to release the shifter in case the ignition switch fails?
