Stereo was stolen while at the getting repaired...

I would be all over there ***. What poor business practices. You should not have to worry about your car if you are leaving it at a auto repair business; they should watch over it.

Sounds like an inside job and the thief or thieves had plenty of time to work with. I'd pursue the shop and speak to the insurance company just in case they failed to cancel as requested. Also I'd be checking craigslist, ebay and local pawn shops--might get lucky...grab the receipts or boxes with serial numbers to use to show ownership. Goodluck

I dropped my ins last time I updated my policy //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif, I'm in the market for a new car...so I was planning on selling everything to get some funds for the new system. Another thing that really pissed me off was the broke my automatic A/C controls, so when I get my car back I still have to get a new one for my A/C to work.
The funny thing was, they had a dispute w/ a customer yesterday who works for a ghetto stereo shop in town. He was also there this morning w/ his friend who works for a locksmith. His system was stolen, also...but I'm sure it was all audiobahn stuff :p. I can guarantee I'm the only one in town who has a XXX, and would bet money that I'm the only one w/ a MD3D.

My gf's mom is a paralegal, and she told me that the lawyer she works for wouldn't mind talking with me...just to let me know what my options are.
doesn't that seem just a BIT odd to you?

Just wondering if anyone has ever had this happen. I took my car yesterday to get my A/C compressor replaced and freon installed, I got a call this morning @ 8am saying I needed to come to the shop. When I got there the cops were there, and the owner tells me my car had been broken into. No broken windows, factory alarm wires were cut, EVERYTHING was gone...Double DIN Kenwood HU, MD3D, yellow top, beloved '05 XXX w/ enlcosure, and they even cut my 2 runs of 0ga Stinger HPM from the battery, pulled back my interior trim, and removed it from the car. 3 cars were broken into, including an employee's. All the cars were inside the fenced in area on the side of the shop.
The shop is pretty new, but they have done quite a bit of work on my car lately. They just put up the "not liable for theft or vandalism" signs, and had some fresh printed ones in their office.

Just wondering what you guys think I should do, or what I can do...I'm out at least 2-3K. The cops told me, that they actually recover lots of stolen equipment within a few days. I find that VERY hard to believe, so I'm not expecting a phone call w/ good news
I would talk to the manager of the store, get that customer's number, then point out all of the interesting coincidences to the police...

Didn't think about it, but sounds like maybe they got your car keys from the shop and opened your car door. If they weren't adequately locked up that may be grounds for liability.

was your box bolted? also was the dash trip damaged, did they pull the ground? If you think about it thats way to long and when your nervious its hard to hold still.

Opening car w/out breaking windows = 3-4 minutes for a SKILLED person.

Cutting Wires and finding brain = 1 minute at least

Pulling out headunit = 3-4 minutes breaking things, 10 or so without breaking or cutting

Pulling amp = 1-2 minutes

pulling Battery = 2-3 minutes if its bolted

Pulling wire = 5-7 minutes

pulling sub and box = 1-2 minutes or around 10 if bolted

Thats 16 to about 40 Depending on the skill of the person and some other variables but that plus a couple other cars? No way would I be near a car for that long while stealing things. Is the car tucked away off a back road or something?

Box wasn't bolted, but it was very heavy and took me and another guy to get it in the trunk...very awkward to get in and out. Cutting the 2 runs of 0ga and having time to pull them completely out of the car was very shocking to me. My door sill and kick panel were off, and laying on my dash. I don't know if you guys have any experience w/ a '95-'99 maxima, but you have to tak the whole dash trim from the middle vents to the shift trim to get the headunit out. All the trim around the HU is help in by screws (4 of them), and then the HU is attached to that piece by 4 screws...they had time to take the HU out and left the dash pieces. I say they spent at the minimum 30mins on my car

WRONG. It can take as less as 30 seconds to get into a car.

We repo, and use them to break into the cars. Takes no longer than a minute, tops. These kits are only sold to recovery agents, auto mechanic shops and car dealers. I'm willing to bet that this shop has just the very same type of gear.

OP, sucks you got jacked, and it sucks that you can't even trust the local repair shops any more. Signs don't mean shit, your car being on their property, and obviously not watched out for, makes them negligent.

You are incorrect, Anyone anywhere can buy these sets.

It takes very little time to just yank every thing if the person does not care about breaking parts then all the little clips and screws let go with a good solid yank. Battery box can be broken with a tire iron. Bain box for the alarm is also easy just need to know where it is.

Most times the theavs will drop the equipment by the end of the next day. Local pawn shop for the dumb ones, A much futher shop for the smarter ones. We had a guy loose stuff and it was sold to other local people the very next night and recovered the morning after. His 4kw was found a year later still screwed to the board that was in the car with the wire from the car still hanging out of it.

I hate that this happend to you.
