Budget: $200-250

Items needed: Amp, Sub, Enclosure, Install

Looking for: SQ

What I have: 97 Toyota Camry, CDT EF-61s w/ TW-24 1" silk tweets powered by Aura 2x150W amp, Alpine CDE-9852, Kenwood KFC-6990ie 6x9" in the rear.

Would the Alpine Type-R 12" be a good choice? I'm just planning to do something simple for SQ with a sealed box. I'm considering going for one of those pre-built enclosures, or is there any other types I should be looking for?

Is that $250 for the sub or for everything?

It's pretty much for everything, yeah that's a pretty limited budget. I don't need anything big, I just want to add a tad of bass to my components for now.

Well, I could probably help you out, but it would push your budget a bit. That is, if you are willing to make the drive up here from Chicago (a bit over 3 hours)

Pick up this amp: http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=product.display&Product_ID=4875

I'll sell you my Eclipse SW8102 sub for $125 and help you build the box and install everything.

You'll have to get a cheap wiring kit from Wally world and some MDF from Home Depot. Should be able to bring it all in for less than $300. If you can find an amp and get up here this week, we can spend a day on it and be done. I'm on Spring Break this week, so I'm free to work on it most of the week.

Oh wow, what a deal, I wish I could make it there though. Unfortunately I don't have time anytime soon to drive up there for it. It looks like a really good deal for that eclipse sub. I doubt you'd want to ship the box and everything though. I'll keep your offer in mind though, thanks a lot.

I don't have a probelm shipping it, but I'm sure it would be pretty expensive. PM me and we can talk it out. If you have AIM or MSN Messenger, add me (hintzyboy@hotmail.com) and we can talk it out on there.

I just sold a 15" Tempest in a ported box for $75, excellent SQ. Person that bought it has NO idea what SQ is, just wanted the trunk to rattle.

If you want to make the trek up by Gurnee I can build a box and do the install for you. Shoot me a PM if interested...

I posted this very same answer on a thread that's virtyally identical.

I have a pair of Boston Pro 10.4 LF series. I used them with an Orion 225 HCCA, and at only 200 watts, they were probably the best SQ subs I have ever heard. Some others, like Alumapro, and Oz had some very very nice 10's, as well. However, I would let these go for $125, plus shipping. Of course, everyone has their own favs, but you did say you were on a budget. These are in good, working order, and look good cosmetically. BTW, they play best in a .75-1.25 CFT sealed box. And, have 250W cont pwr rating. Machined aluminum basket, and poly cone. They can be bought NEW through new old stock through Boston for $280 each. So, they were pretty expensive stuff when they were first released.

Just so I don't get accused of trying to foist my stuff off on you, I was planning to put them on ebay, anyway. Just thought I would give you a shot before I do. I think Blue is on vacation, or busy working, but he agrees with me about the SQ of the Boston 10's.
