I know the type R is a very highly rated sub for the $ but I see most people talking about how loud they go.. Im looking to get a single 12" sub to run of a kicker 400.1 amp and not sure which sub.. I want good sq but it needs to be loud. I was orignally looking at Kicker CVR, I know the R would be louder but how is the SQ? Any other suggestions im pretty much looking for a good over all 400-500rms sub for about $100...

with 400 watts go for something else other than the Type R's. The R's need lots of power //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/up2something.gif.dd110ecf3ae4b76050d87598f2f8de7c.gif

Well a kicker 400.1 is really from what Ive seen about 450rms @2ohms so it would get the same power that you would probalby using like a hifonics 750 watt amp...

This doesn't get said enough. Type-r's are suprisingly power hungry for a speaker in their price-range.

The power handling requirements are way off for the new models.

Alpine did something called CYA - aka "cover your @$$." They way underrated the subs to prevent idiots from blowing them. It'd be awfully hard to blow an R on 500w and if you're running it with more than 500w, then technically it wouldn't be covered under warranty.

Most subs are like this. They have best output at 500 RMS. Well how many amps are turned up all the way to push 500 RMS. If you put an 800W amp on it and have the volume 80% up and gain 75% up then you are at about 500 RMS. Though Alpine would say, you put 800 watts on it. They just don't want to replace a lot of subs under warranty.

This is very dependent on your HU's RCA voltage....for instance, my gains only have to be set to ~25% because the 8443 has very high pre-amp voltage.
