sq hdc3 15" sub, what can it take ?

i think it can handle more but not sure how much more.

do get me wrong it slams HARD but just was thinking if i could feed it more.

and im asking because the amp i have now seems to be going out and i had planed to get another amp same think and get another sq 15"

well when im ready to buy i may not find that amp.

so im looking around for another amp and this time get one with more power as long as these subs can take it.

and if you dont know what amp im talking about its the ppi black ice bk1800.1 mono amp.

o forgot to say,

i have a high output alt. all 1/0 wiring and for right now i have a yellow top battery. i plan on getting a audio battery or 2 for the back.

the box is about 5^ ported at 34 hz.

If your trying to up the power to get louder for daily, your going to be in for a bad time, lol. to get an audible gain going from 1800 watts up to a higher power level you need to gain at least a db, really 2 db to make a good difference.. a 3db gain is 3600 watts so you need about 2500 watts to hear a difference coming from 1800.. Issue is that's in a perfect world where coils dont' get hot and have impedance rise and speakers don't lose motor force as they begin to move further out of the gap.. In the real world 3600 watts continous might give you a 2db gain after compression (still somewhat unlikely) and as others already said that kind of power is really for burps only, 10-15 seconds at a time.

The gains you'll make by adding extra power say in the 2500 watt range are going to be modest at best and leave you with a MUCH higher chance for failure as opposed to now where you getting 95% of the max output this thing can do longeterm, with basically no risk of damage.. If you want it louder, add a sub or make a new box, power isn't going to give you any real gains to the ear. Upgrading to the PPI amp isn't bad, especially if what you have is going out. Just realize you wont' hear much a difference when you upgrade amps.. You'll hear a small difference for a day or two, then your ears will adjust and that'll be it. If you upgrade amps just make sure if you smelll anything funny turn it down immediately and if you think your being too abusive, you probably are.. AQ subs are pretty durable, but everything has limits.
