i just need to know why when i look at a woofers page now it says it works best in a sealed or ported when all i knew was it was either sealed or either ported

Plenty of good offerings work either or. JL w7 is a fine example. Some others that claim they're good for either or are probably not good for either or just lying to try to appeal to a larger range of consumers who wouldn't know better. Really your best way to "see" what's happening is to download winISD or Bass Box Pro or similar and just model different subs in different boxes.

To be a bit nicer, if you're trying to sell this information you really owe it to your readers/customers to understand it yourself, or since a lot of this is subjective anyway, understand enough to form your own opinion and back it up. Do some modeling, buy and read The Loudspeaker Cookbook, or just dig around for articles and white papers published by reputable engineers.

This sub is SUPER punchy and plays well in a port or sealed box. Prefabs are made just for this sub.

Alpine R-W12D4 12″ Subwoofer

This sub is sound quality for days. Will play anything and everything in a ported box.

Pioneer TS-W311S4 12″ Subwoofer

Best sub you can buy at your local walmart. This sub is a champion. Plays well in a ported box.

Kicker 44CWCS124 12″Subwoofer

This sub kills anything above 40hz but will not play 40hz what so ever. You will defintely feel the kick. Large ported box.

JBL CS1214 12″ Subwoofer

JL Audio 12W0V3-4 12″ Subwoofer

This sub will sound like unicorns singing to your ears. Loves small sealed boxes.

It was a good sub, but rockford uses regulated power supplies on their amps, so if you use a different brand amp with this sub, the voice coil occassionly wont beable to handle the extra ohm load. Sounded good for the price in my opinion put it in a small sealed box. Best to stay with the few amps with regulated powers supps. Hi phonics, dual, etc.

i actually had one in my ranger, best sub for spl ive ever used. Sq is almost on par with the digital designs 9512 im using now, but the alpine was way louder.

Decent for the money, but it really needs a 3rd order enclosure to shine. If you dont feel like building one a .5 cu ft ported will sound decent enough, but there are better options.

The w0 line is more suited to competition than every day play. It is designed to spl, and therefore plays really really low notes and not much else. (That's what the "0" means, btw. The w3 or w7 will play the midbass the w0 cant, and sound better doing it)

Passive radiators is pretty much your only option at that point. Is anyone really buying a W0 over a W7 to get loud? I guess when you're dumb enough to pay JL prices, maybe so. This place if full of retards that just garble out anything to sound impressive. Saying his type R is way louder than a 9512 tells me that the enclosure is off and probably underpowering the dd sub. Boxed correctly a 9512 will stomp all over a type r. Spl or sq wise imo
