speakers in rear arm rests??

ive seen this done in many old cars and it turns out i probally wont have the room i wanted in the back of my vert for 6x9s in boxes my next option is rear arm rests but if the speakers are facing directly to each other wont that cancel out alot of sound???

any help appreciated thanks yall.
