Speaker wires

I am new here. I bought an indash 8 track player from ebay to go in my late 60's muscle car to be retro looking. Didn't really care if it worked or not. It powers up, but not sure if it all works yet. There are 6 wires coming off the back. One power, one ground and one wire for each of the 4 speakers, LF, RF, LR and RR. I think there should be 8 wires for the speakers, positive and negative for each speaker. Nothing has been cut or damaged on the unit. Can speakers work with only one wire?

It's a 69 Mercury Cougar XR7. Yes, I have seen the nostalgic looking stereos. They are really nice. I do want to get something a bit later with bluetooth and all the modern bells and whistles. Like I say, that will come later. I will bench test this 8-track player this weekend to see if it even works at all.

Nice mercury!! Is that a 390 car? I'm building a factory five racing cobra kit car, it all started when i inherited a 428 from a 67 Shelby GT500. Another hobby to spend a ton of money on...lol.
