speaker swap

Okay i decided to swap out my read deck stock 6x9 for a better set. Now i did not buy the speaker installation plugs with the speaker and now im stuck at a problem I dont know which wire is positive and negative. If i flip them will i hurt the speakers and how will i know if their right?

won't hurt the speakers if they're flopped. Hook them up the way you think, darker wire is usually -. You want the cone to move away from the magnet, if it moves towards the magnet, flip the wires and you're good.

a small AA battery can be very useful at times like this. i usually just cut the wires, connect the speaker to the battery. if the cone moves out , u have the positive on the correct side, and same for the negative. if the cone moves in, u know the positive one is the other wire instead.

that's correct, but he's trying to figure out which wire is + at the speaker end. Can't use this method, the batt. would be sending the charge to the HU, not the speaker.

u could look at the back of the stock speakers.....or you could look in a hanes manual for color coding
