Speaker Fuzz Issue

The factory stereo in my 2008 Scion XD used to sound very clear, and I thought it was a pretty decent system. I mainly used the proprietary iPod cable to play my music, and it sounded great. Then one day some of the songs started to sound very low quality – cymbals very distorted, all piercing noises like synths sound slightly fuzzy when compared to other speakers. I did not think it was an issue with the speakers, because it started in all 4 of them at the same time.

The sound continued for months before I decided to get it looked at. The installer at the stereo shop listened to my system for about one minute before deciding the issue was in the speakers, so I bought 300W Pioneers, they were installed, and I listened to find that the issue was still there. “Must be the deck then.” Changed the deck to a Pioneer FH-X720BT, left so I could listen to the system for a while and get a feel for it. The issue persisted, but now I also couldn’t get the equalization to sound right. Exchanged that deck for a Sony NEX-5000BT, which improved the equalization, but the initial issue is STILL there. Most people can’t seem to hear it until I show them the comparison, but it’s there.

Has anyone else had this problem? Could it be that the audio cables need to be replaced? Any info will help. Thank you.
