Speaker baffles

What is the purpose of the baffles that hold the stock speakers in some cars?

I'm putting new speakers in my pathfinder and it looks easier to just keep the baffles in...

purpose is to hold the speakers in place...if your new speakers will fit then use the stock baffles. If they won't then make new ones out of 1/4-1/2" thick MDF, plywood or whatever...

Depends on what you mean by baffles..
