Sound Deadening Question

I'm going to sound deaden the floor and back half of the car (using Damplifier). I pulled the carpet and found some Dynamat already present.

What's the best way to do this?

I was wondering if I should use spray in the spare tire area?

Should I just use sound deadener sheets on everything or a combination (if so where)?

Should I use sound foam also (if so where)?

Need advise.....thanks

PS - Ignore the sub frame connector

I'd start w/ your doors then move to the hatch. If that Dyna is secure just Damplify over it & every where else you can. I'll never have the gall to use the spray. But if your not satisfied w/ the results of just the Damplifier, the spray is recommend on top the strips anyway. If your getting any panel buzzing after that, troubleshoot w/ the foam.

Some is better than none.

But it not being rolled down was the first thing I noticed. After that, research the key areas to deaden. Go til you run out.
That really depends, but with a product like Dynamat Original, some really isn't much better than none. It would be an error to apply anything else on top of it. Much better to pull it up and have an effective vibration damper in direct contact with the sheet metal.

Ok....I'll pull the Dynamat. I'm not doing the doors at the moment (they have been Dynamated). I'll be pulling ALL the carpet up (removing the front and rear seats) and using POR15 on the seems before I use the Damplifier.

My question remains....should I use spray on the uneven surfaces (like the spare tire area in pic 2) or cut the Damplifier into strips and adhere?

Just to be clear, Dynamat Xtreme (foil/butyl adhesive) is a very good product. Dynamat Original isn't. Unlike DX and similar products that most of us are familiar with, Dynamat Original is an asphalt/rubber pad with a separate PSA. It's more likely that the PSA has failed than that it wasn't applied properly in the first place. Good call on getting rid of it.

It's really a matter of personal choice whether you use mat or liquid on the uneven surfaces. Liquid will probably be slightly less effective per unit of mass added, but that's debatable. Mats are flexible enough to be pressed down over those ridges or you can cut strips to go between them - totally up to you.

I have installed a TON of that dynamat original over the years. Enough so that I feel confident in saying that mat was never heated properly when it was applied. That asphalt mat tends to change color and texture abit when its heated, that stuff looks like it just came out of the packaging. Notice how much darker the small vertical piece is in comparison to the larger piece? The vertical piece looks like it was heated correctly, the big piece does not. Id bet my bottom dollar it simply wasnt applied correctly the first time. Not that it makes any difference to his decision to shit-can it, just saying.

ive found the best stuff for the floor is quarter inch lead mat made by dynamat just use a dead blow and form it to your floor. my boy has a 700hp vette and that shit worked wonders in his car! give it a try

Products like that are very effective at blocking nose - the main concern with floors. It's actually 15 mil lead sheeting composited with foam. 1/4" lead would weigh something like 16 lbs/ft² and e overkill //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Any pics of the whole f-body?

I've got a 99 bird. I'd reccomend yankin that dynamat off. Put a bit of deadner on your sail panels. I don't know about you but I get a bit of noise through them. For your spare tire area I used a spectrum sludge. Wasnt a huge difference imo but it was worth the effort. Everything else i'd put down mat. And if you can put some luxury liner in the sail panels. pm me if you have any more questions.

Thanks for the info. I will pull the old Dynamat and toss.

I plan on pulling all the carpet out and covering everything.

I'll look into the luxury liner. I was hoping to use Damplifier mat to cover everything. The new interior panels I have do not have the cutouts for the rear speakers, so hitting the area with luxury liner should be no prob.
