Subwoofer facing firewall...?

Hi guys, am new to this forum, planning a small SQ install and needed a bit of advice...

I ordered this sub box, expecting the hole to be on the slanted side...

...turns out its an old picture and the one that arrived has the hole on the vertical size! argg :whatever:

Due to tight space inside the MR2 cabin I have to put it so that the flat vertical side is up against the firewall to maximise the seat recline...for those that don't know what the mr2 cabin is like, the firewall is behind the seats, eg...

Would it be ok if I had the subwoofer facing directly towards the firewall, with say an inch of clearance to allow for any big excursion...How would this affect SQ and SPL? or would it be better to seal the hole with some more mdf and make a new hole on the slanted side, which faces towards the cabin

fill the hole in the verticle and make a hole for the sub in the slanted side as well as a new bafflwe to make it flush mount? might work then if you feel like doing a little wood work.

looks like a hard car to do much on though unless you glass or get creative

i think i'm gunna try it out first facing the bulkhead...worst case like you guys said, i can just cut a hole on the other side and fill the vertical side...

what do you mean by flush baffle? and what does it do?
