Sound Dampening -> Application Advice

Alright.

So I read up on all sorts and types of deadeners and decided on eDead. I don't want people harping on me because I didn't purchase one of their own preferred brands, but honestly won't it be enough payback if it backfires on me then to have people bash me on my purchase? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif It's the butyl rubber stuff not the asphalt based deadener, and so it shouldn't melt or peel off.

I managed to find a forum discount for it and ordered 80sq feet for $80.00 (.8c per sq feet. $60+$20S&H) CHEAP!!!

I plan on doing the application on my 1998 4runner.

First up are the doors. I ordered new speakers, so the door deadening will be priority numero uno. Any tips as to how I should go about putting it on my doors? I plan on placing one layer on the very outside wall, perhaps 2/3 directly behind the speaker, and a layer on the internal side. The one with all the holes and such in it.

I also plan on doing the floor under the driver and passenger seats, and the back floor close to the exhaust. I'll try to cover the whole floor if I have enough.

The door pillars seem almost too much work for too little advantage so I'll leave those off. The roof has padding and a plastic headliner, so I doubt I'll put any on that either.

For the firewall, if I was to desire, should I do the inside (close to the interior) or in the engine compartment?

What are some useful tools for putting the stuff on? What are some good things to use to clean the surface before applying the deadener?

Finally, to people that have done the sound deadening in the past, are there any things that in retrospect you see would have made things easier or things that you wished you had done.

Thanks very much! Sorry for the long post!

Sorry to hit it first but isn't edead asphalt based or is the new stuff butyl? If so get a heat gun and a roller and make sure you get a good contact to a clean surface. ( I used an alcohol wipe down to clean up the surface before installing it.)

Hopefully edead isn't asphalt based. I've used both asphalt and butyl deadener, the butyl deadener went on a million times easier and stuck alot better.

Get yourself a roller and a heat gun and go to town. Take your time, since your going through the trouble of doing your doors inside and out, be sure to seal off the access holes as well.

It is butyl based. Trust me I checked. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

haha. Now read past the first paragraph and advise me. lol

Not sure how cold it is in Tulsa. Make sure the deadener and vehicle are decently warm so the deadener is easier to work with/apply.

usually low between 25-35 and it'll warm up to 40-50.

Is the stickyness of the adhesive determinant on temperature? Or is it solely the pliability that varies?

Fully butyl It has been in my car since i bought it. it is a 2006 toyota matrix. I applied mine in the summer of 2006 when they first released the second editon all butyl edead. Not a spot has moved. Excellent quality product and the cheapest price i have ever heard of. I also got mine on forum discount but they did away with that. But now you say it's back!?! awesomeness. My RSD12d's can use some more deadening in the rear especially once i get my H/O alternator.

also for your questions. My roof made some REALLY annoying rattles so i had to deaden it. It depens on the vehicle i guess though.

I hope all you guys using e-dead have good luck with it.

However, for those who may read this and think that all is well with e-dead you may want to do more research. From what I have read it still looks like the product is not up to par with rammat or secondskin. Besides, I don't know how you could ever trust the company given its history with deadener.
