You try to look at it as if the situation is the same every single time. When indeed it is not, and all factors must be evaluated.Just saying, there seems to be quite a double standard here... on this forum people scream for blood when we think someone is ripping people off, we want people 'outed' when they do anything that may be shady... this community relies on feedback and honesty to keep the marketplace here going strong, in large part.
But yet, many people seem to think it's ok to steal and rip people off in person, and we should protect them from getting caught or at the very least not rat them out so they don't get in trouble. Why is it any different? Doesn't this seem a bit... hypocritical to you?
This forum and many like it all subscribe to the "bros before hos" thug coalition. I know where you are coming from and if someones criminal actions were influencing my life for the worse, I would drop dime on them in a heartbeat. I wouldn't go out of my way to snitch, but if it affects me to any degree then yes.I didn't say it was... just trying to ascertain what is considered kosher in terms of 'snitching' on someone. I mean if it's a matter of degrees...
A job and cleared name isn't important to you? I'll be ****ed if I take the blame or repercussions for ANYONES misdoings.listen, if you want to tell the grocery store who was stealing beer to keep your job, more power to you.
its just not something i would do.
Those account numbers are easy to obtain though, so you are right in keeping the name to yourself until proof is given. Where I used to work we had to go over our UPS bills with a fine tooth comb. You wouldn't believe how many times the account was compromised and we had to fight charges. I even had the account Paypal makes on your behalf for their automated shipping compromised //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gifI have the dude's information available on my fedex account since he basically wrote it all into the form and fedex keeps it on file. if they inform me it was indeed him then yeah ill let you guys know who it was. ill post it in the buyer seller feedback forum. if there is one.
I just dont think its right to outright post his screen name. he was honest during the transaction and the product was perfect as described. And he's the only person ive given the acct number to.
What if the guy dropped the paper or left it in the open that had the acc# on it? What if a fedex employee gave the number to someone? These numbers aren't as secured as you think. They just aren't usually targeted for theft or misuse because they net no real money. I would wait for proof before ousting someone. I probably wouldn't have made the thread until then though //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gifThis thread is pointless. Either you have given your account # to various people on the forum, or you gave it to one individual. With any type of common sense, if it's being shipped from the same city as the guy that you gave it to, then report him. /story
I totally disagree. Shitty job or not, my name and integrity mean something to me.You try to look at it as if the situation is the same every single time. When indeed it is not, and all factors must be evaluated.
First of all, never said it was okay to steal beer. I said that given the circumstances, I would chose get fried from a shitty job for something that the company can't even prove rather than get all my dumbass friends in trouble with the law. If they are dumb enough to keep stealing beer when the company knows someone is taking it, then they will receive their punishment in due time. And if these people aren't my friends, I'm sure they will have no problem beating the shit out of me. Also, it's pretty god ****ed dumb of the store to not have security cameras if they know they are having these problems.
Scamming people on the internet IS different. I don't want scammed just as much as the next guy on this forum so what's the best way to prevent this? Out the scammers. Oh wait, but that's snitching? Well, lets see, what will happen when you snitch on a scammer on the internet? I say who scammed me, it helps other people on this forum who are more of my friends than the guy stealing from me. So, I'm helping my "friends" out at this point. By making it public to the forum that this guy is running a shady business, I stand to lose no more money than I've already lost, and if the guy wishes to ever buy or sell anything on the site again, he'll make things right. I also don't have to worry about bodily harm because the guy is a couple states away and if anything, the scammer should be more worried about being beaten at this point.
So is there a double standard between snitching on the internet and in real life? I guess there is and will be as long as people value their physical well-being and reputation over a minimum wage job at the local grocery store.
DING DING DING WE HAVE A WINNER!If you have a shipping acct, odds are if you use any third-party software, the number will be out there. It's not something that is technically hidden,
You're absolutely right. That's exactly what I do. TO me, stealing is stealing, lying is lying, and there's no gray area there. If you let people get away with the small stuff, they'll eventually move on to the big stuff. it's human nature, and it's been proven time and time again. You try to look at it as if the situation is the same every single time.
right along with thug life 4 eva! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gifOn second thought, I'm done arguing with you.
But if you ever see someone selling drugs, guns, or etc, just remember the little rhyme...
"Snitches are bitches that end up in ditches"
Yup, because no one has ever been beaten or killed because of a drug deal gone bad...EVAR!!!right along with thug life 4 eva! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif
