having some trouble with my mids/highs. My equipment is listed in my sig.

Basically when i turn the amp gain up anywhere close to half way my speakers make this insanely loud "dddrrrrrr" after they play fine for a few seconds. Like this noise hurts my ears and it smelled like the the speakers where burning. THe noise then continues after HU volume is all the way down and i unplug my ipod. Continues until i turn the car off. Was told i had a ground loop so i switched to a better ground in my trunk. ITs the same spot my sub amp is grounded too (but on a different seat) and that has worked perfectly fine for years. The music will play fine (but have terrible SQ and not very loud) with the gain a quarter way up and under. I have slight alternator whine. I bought the comp set new and the amp used. Help is greatly appreciated i have been spending days trying to get my mids/highs right and i just cant seem to get anywhere. Below are some pics of my install job and ground and what not.

let it make the noise again and unplug the rca's if it continues the amp is bad. but try not to do it too long as it sounds like your cooking the voice coils!

UUghh im scared lol. I take a vid of it also so everyone can hear the exact noise it makes. The dude i got the amp from claims it works fine.

I feel like its not the amp tho... I had a clarion amp before. Had alternator whine whenever i turned its gain up too high also and it also sounded like trash. So im thinking theres something making these amps sound like trash lol

So close to taking it to a audio shop. But i know they will want to take everything out and re-install it so they can charge me the install costs. Then claim i didnt have enough speaker wire and my rca's are bad or wtv to more money lmao. Something worth noting tho: i didnt have alternator whine until i installed that jvc head unit.

Chill out man it's going to be ok, you need to pull it all out and carefully re-install it this really isn't that hard.

@stay_high ;, you need that terminal to be against the bare metal of the cars body, or frame. I actually run a negative all the way back to my battery ftw. Spend the few bucks on wire to do that, and you won't be disappointed. Just make sure the wire matches your power.

Thats not bare metal? I had a audio shop put my sub amp in and they grounded to that same spot but on the other seat. Also, I thought you coudnt run a ground wire thats more than like..... 2 feet? RUnning it all the way to the battery would be like 15 foot. But i need new tweeters now...

Yes, that is bare metal, but it is 1) probably not the type of metal that will conduct well, and 2) sitting flush with a painted surface that you cannot pass current through. YOu need to be against the bare metal of your cars body, at the very least. The other options I mentioned are even better, though.

wtf?

So its ok to run a ground wire from the trunk to the battery?? Thats a llongg ways. But why would a bad ground blow out a speaker and make that crazy loud noise when gain is turned up .
