someone explain co-axial with a passive crossover

I've been reading about different front door speakers.

I am curios about coaxial speakers with a passive crossover example

soundstream sst2.25

I know when a component system is setup they say the tweeter should be no more than 1- 2 inches from the woofer which this is. from my understanding components are better due to the fact they operate signal to each driver.

these speakers then would seem perfect for the purpose of replacing speakers in a car where stock components didn't exist correct.

any input guys how do you think these speakers would compare to a component

In my eyes, the main differences between coaxials and components are:

1. Quality of crossover(s)

2. Better sound stage with tweeters closer to ears (depending on mounting location)

With that set, a good set of coaxials will work just fine.

Some higher end coaxial or coaxial capable speakers have terminals that allow active crossing over. I like coaxials a lot in principal but you do lose cone area with the conventional design and most use the simplest crossover (just a tiny cap). Also most are just made to be inexpensive and low quality.

Coaxials are easier to mount cheaper in price and not really for high end sound. you get better imaging having a tweeter up high mid down low, even better with a tweeter up high, mid range close to it and midbass down low.
