No, you don't want it hooked up. Test the RCA's by themselves.

It could be a short where the RCA's inputs are connected to the amp's circuitboard.

That would be a defective amp. Did this happen the first time you hooked it up?

yes, plugged everything in, turned the car on, about 5 seconds later the amp made a popping sound and started smoking.

the rest of the amp seems to work just fine, except the hifonics logo on top which is supposed to light up. it never lit up so i guess thats covered under warranty either way. But the amp will still power up with the power light on, and none of the warning lights are on. Its only when the RCA's are plugged in that it starts to smoke.

What size wiring were you running to the Herc?

0 guage power and ground, 8 guage speaker wire

That makes sense. If your RCA's aren't shorted out, then it's a defect in the amp.

When you send it in, put in a note that says amp powers up, but as soon as RCA's are inserted it starts smoking.
