Some random questions

Ok soooo. I just checked my HU. Turned off the HPF, for some reason I can't do the same to the LPF. Basically, it's a screen that says "SW.1" or something like that, and you can move it from around 62 hz to 165 hz, and -9 to +9. Don't know what that is.

I'm still relatively new to all this, I know some, but not a lot.

The SD2.515 is a dual 4 ohm setup right? How do you have the coils wired? The coils are wired like this - the 2 wires (black and black, red and red) for each vc are twisted together.

That's paralleled so you should be getting 600rms.....so that's not the problem

Unless you f'ed something up and switched one of the coils backward (out of phase) but I doubt the sub would even function then.

Yeah. Idk how I'd even go about wiring a vc backwards other than neg to pos... so yeah.

I'll check the HPF thing on the way to school tomorrow.

I turned the HPF off and stuff, still nothing. I can't turn the LPF off on the HU as far as I can tell, so I gotta look into that more.. but I doubt that's the problem. I still don't get much output at all... doesn't even rattle my mirrors.

Oh yea- if the sub bottomed out for like 5 seconds total, will that leave any permanent damage?

Nah it shouldm be ok, slight chance of damage to your VC , but you won't know till this thing actually gets moving.

1. do you have 3 sets of RCA outputs on your cd player

2. Is your sub amp is hooked up to the sub out?

3. If it an alpine what is your sub level at?

4. What type of CD player do you have?

5. Have you done this install entirely by yourself?

6. Are you runnign speakers off HU or a seperate amp for your highs?

2. I think so, it should be. That could also be the problem.. Ill check that in a bit.

3. Not an alpine. No bass enhancement.

5. Basically. My friend's the manager for the install bay at bestbuy, he helped install the hu (I watched closely so he didnt **** it up)

6. Seakers are stock and run off the HU now.

Try setting your gain with a -3db tone, and set your Sub Sonic Frequency to around 25 (I'd suggest doing it by ear). Good luck.

Why a -3db tone? Wouldn't that leave it like, wide open for clipping? My amp is too cheap to have a SSF. I got it from a friend for free.

-3db it is closer to the volume that most music would be recorded at is what I think he means.

you might be getting 600w with a 0db tone but most music is never gonna have that dynamic range or be recorded at that level. Worth trying.

I think Realm Of Excursion has the tones to DL on their forum or in DL section, just scroll dowm past the first set to find the -3db's

Yeah thats what I was thinking, but don't most people set with 0db in order to completley prevent clipping? that wouldnt really solve my problem either, just make my amp work harder, right?

no rms is more of an average than a hard line, the amp needs to put out the wattage on this woofer and either something is not getting the correct signal aka (settings / RCA's) or the amp is just not making the wattage it needs to. 600 on this 15" in 3.5 should be moving the mirror bro, **** near knocking it off in a great install.

How much higher did your tuning get when building??, if its tuned much higher than 45 /50 Hz there is not gonna be any low end, and the woofer would flop around alot and not make much bass due to most music being below the tuning frequency.

like play a song and watch the woofer move on something that would normally be pretty nice. Plenty of throw and no bass is a sure sign.

Update: I emailed DJ during school and he said there's no way that it's an HDC3... but that doesn't rule out the suspension thing. Although I'd imagine they're not easy to mix up. I gotta get a DMM that measures ohms better. The one I have is dumb, only measures in 1000's.

The tuning is at around 38 hz I'd say. The port got a little messd up when I built it, I'm planning on building another one.. that was my first box. What happened is was when I was putting it together, the port piece got angled a wee bit. I don't know if that would have a huge effect on it. I'll go out and check the RCA's in a minute, my car was covered in ice and I didnt feel like messing with it.

Oh yeah - would turning up the bass like I did have that much of an effect on the sub if the box was built bad (which it may have been, fist box i built and all)
