Some alpine type r questions

Hey guys, so from what i've read a good basic sub is the type r. I used to have some RF H3 the super old ones, except over the weekend my buddies punctured them. What jerks eh?

Anyways they were in my old car, and now I have a new ride so it's time to pimp it, as they say.

I was thinking of getting two 12" because I already have a descent sealed box from my last subs. (I know the dimensions won't exactly line up)

Do you guys think that two may be overkill though? I do enjoy a lot of bass but perhaps it would be smarter to just get one and get a larger amp for it?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

ok so type r's arent bad but for the money but I would suggest soundqubed hds2's if your on a budget but if you have a little bit more to spend in the type r range I would go with sundown sa's over the type r's. Check out sound solutions audio for this stuff and for an amp I'd say go with soundqubed q1200.1

Well..1st of all,,we do not know what vehicle this is going in,what are the deminsions of that box,and type of construction,as well as thickness. What amp you have, and type of space you are willing to give up,and are you running STOCK electrical?BIGGER isn't always better..A pair of tens may do better within the space given up for a properly built enclosure than cramming a pair of 12s or 15s in,and sound like azz.A subwoofer is only as good as its enclosure as well as properly powered, tuned for the specs given. We break limitations of specs quite often, and lots of times its within our favor, yet,at time pushing those limitations can become costly.1 good sub in the right enclosure can be very impressive as well.

I have a 2007 Civic Ex. I don't mind giving up trunk space. The amp I have is Kenwood KAC-728S 100W x 2 Car Amplifier at Crutchfield.com I feel like it would be pretty under powered for these subs though.

The box I have is a custom box I believe (I bought my old setup second hand).

It's 28" wide. It's 16" Deep at the bottom, and has a slant to a thinner top which is 10" deep. I hope this info helps.

Thanks for your replies guys //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Most deff not enough power to push the subs properly.Might use that on your front stage or?Sell it.Thats just me.Ive never liked any of Kenwoods amps that Ive tried over the years. Not enough power. The only Kenwood amps I ever liked were back in like 1990-1992.Look for a decent 2k-1600 rms amp up to 2500 rms would be ideal. You could prob find a decent HiFonics amp within A Budget minding. You will more than likely need to add another battery, and run 0 ga wiring, and deff look into doing the ELD bypass if you feel comfortable with it.There is a tutorial on here or on Honda forum.Asforthe enclosure??It could work, but work well, and surfice very nicely??Prob not.You can get a build sheet from Buck on here for the enclosure,to get the best out of your subs performance.Build the enclosure yourself for arounf $150 bucks wrapped with materials verses having one made locally and out of tune more than likely and not to specs for about $300 smacks bare wood(5/8) more than likely

Oh wow 2k Rms. I definitely don't want to get into a second battery and stuff. If I get a smaller amp and underpower them would that work?
A second battery is easier to place than you think.A smaller amp will be clipping its azz off more than likely, and wasting your time of installing and setting gains and then replacing it after she toasts up nicely, and smell those subs.lol.Hondas alt shut down to like 11.9-12.2 v while its a gas saving feature, with the eld bypass you will maintain voltage all the time instead of loosing sound, or shutting down and kicking back on will drive a human insane!

You can get a smaller amp, just set the gains with the DMM,and stay out of the distortion levels, and you can run less power, provided you supply the demand constantly

get a ppi bk 1800, and 2 soundqubed hds200, sell your sealed box and get a ported box built, there are members on here that can build and ship you a nice box for under 110-150(depending on bells and whistles). Most you'll need is a big 3 upgrade which is pretty cheap. you said you like your beats fast and bass down low right? Under powered woofers will play very sloppy and will have a horrible time reaching any low notes. Always overpower not underpower. Always have power on tap, you wont need to use all of the power with amp settings and it wont be that hard on electricals as you would think. However, with underpowering, You'll most likely drive the woofers into clipping from your dissatisfaction.
