Solid Battery - Reversed Terminals

Hey guys,

I promise I did some thread searching before posting, but I apologize in advance if Im beating a dead horse here.

Not too long ago I purchased a Kinetik HC1800 (single battery, replacing a large stock battery) for my SQ install. I never got around to installing it until this weekend. Lo and behold! The terminal layout isnt going to work without some major rewiring.

So now Im left wondering what my options are. What I need is something around 2000 CCA, with the positive terminal on the right side (assuming the terminals are on the near-side of the battery, from the viewer's perspective).

Another catch is that standard G31's arent going to fit on the stock battery rest (part of the reason I went with the Kinetik).

Thanks in advance for the info. Im considering anything at this point, but Id like to keep it at

you just need the posts on the other side? A little piece of bar stock and a tap/die set will 'move' them to the other side. I know it's not the BEST Idea for an SQ guy.

For some reason I thought that model of kinetik was available with the posts on either side.

edit: just saw the 'new' kinetik site. hhmmh.

I do not know too many people who dont modify their wiring or at least terminals. Seen factory wires ran into distribution blocks (one pos, 1 neg) then rerouted to actually move the battery a few feet.

Thanks for the replies so far. The factory wiring is so precisely cut that the few inches difference that rotation creates puts the terminals out of reach. The problem is how short the factory wires are, and how they are cut to exactly meet the positive and negative terminals, not necessarily the side that they are on.

I have thought about "extending" the terminals a few inches, either by bar or wire. The problem is that I would have to run the pos and neg past eachother to make it work... makes a guy uneasy, even with precautions.

Any idea what batteries are out there with reversed terminals? I saw a Kinetik HC1400r and I think PowerMaster has 1600 cca (5100r)with reversed terminals. If these were just a little more robust, I wouldnt have a problem with them. But if there isnt anything else out there, I think Im out of luck and will need to settle. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

don't be afraid, just disconnect the ground before you do your wiring.

there are reverse terminal batts, but none as big as the hc1800. just disconnect the ground and extend the wires. I'm guessing the factory wires are 8ga. so just find one of those crimp connectors for 8ga. wire and extend the power and ground. ahve the power wire go on one side of the batt and the ground on the other side.

Pioneer: Sorry, I sent you a PM - I should have mentioned something in the post.

Great idea to combine the two - rotate the batter 180 degrees then extend with the bar + new terminals.

I think that is exactly what I will do. Ill be honest, Ive never tried something like this before - any reference posts (pref with pics) or sites I should check out?

Thanks for all the feedback - Ill let you know how it goes. Ill get a family member to add R.I.P. to my sig if it doesnt work //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif

Well, check this out...I just installed my recently purchased Kinetik HC2000 and had purchased the Knukonceptz KonFused Negative and Positive battery terminals - these are the ones that allow you to have up to 3 0/1 to 4 gauge wires going into each terminal. Well, they have a positive and negative terminal as the positive terminal on a battery is larger than the negative one. Well, not on my Kinetik! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wow.gif.23d729408e9177caa2a0ed6a2ba6588e.gif The positive terminal is actually just small enough that no matter how much I tighten the terminal, it's loose. So, had to order another negative terminal so it will fit. Until then I wrapped a couple of revolutions of small copper wire around the positive post so I could get the terminal to bite while I wait for the other terminal to arrive. Go figure!

werd just us a distro block / bus bar or lengthn the factory wiring , or replace it , its probly shitty wire anyway

edit : dawg if you cant fabricate , at least a little bit , please stop intsalling your own car audio because you are definitley in for some $hit

Agree with that...there hasn't been one thing I have done since my install that did not require some thinkin' on the fly and quick fabrication...MacGyver ain't got nothin' on me! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/cool.gif.3bcaf8f141236c00f8044d07150e34f7.gif
