So what can a Alpine Type-R really handle?

I've got two Alpine Type-R's, SWR-1242D. I have them underpowered, by this ( http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Product/Item/Main.aspx?g=120&i=489AP1000M&tp=115 ).

I'm looking at just running one of them off of my current amp or upgrading to this ( http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Product/Item/Main.aspx?g=120&i=489AP2000&tp=115 ).

I'm on an extreme budget as I am a college student. Is this feasible? I've heard alot of people talking about how hard you can run Type-R's. Any experience, knowledge, or feedback you guys can offer? Thanks.
