My sister just got her 02 SS back from the car audio shop. She got memphis speakers all around and an alpine 9855 mp3 player. For the rear she got a Memphis 1000d and a Memphis 300X4(white marine amplifiers to match exterior paint). She is not happy with the subs. She got talked into the cheaper m-class 10'' subwoofers (200W rms each) in a sealed probox. Im pretty sure the amp is wired at 4 ohms currently so its not being used to its potential. The bass is not loud at all but i didn't expect it to be when she told me what she chose. The memphis 1000d she has is a pretty good amp from what i have been reading and the only thing holding her system back is some nice subs. She wants some nice subs that are loud and clear and that will work in her ProBox. Im thinking of getting some Diamond D3's or maybe some D6's (Amp puts out 1100 watts @1ohm). Have any other suggestions? Looking for some less expensive yet good subs that will tromp on these memphis subs. What subs will work good in a rather small sealed enclosure (.86 cubic feet per side) with about 550Wrms to each?

how is that amp at 4 ohm? what is the coil config on her subs? if they are the ones i find they are eithe single 4 or dual 4 eithey way you can get 2 ohms outta single 4's or 1 ohm outta dual 4's maybe they jsut need rewired?

Yea but if they are rewired to 1 ohm they are getting over double their RMS rating which Im sure wouldnt last long with an unknowledgable person running the system. Maybe she knows more than I think, but from what I read, I wouldnt rewire it to 1 ohm.

Why roll your eyes at a 200rms rating? Not everyone wants to run a gazillion watts of power, and memphis subs are pretty durable.Anyway the M-class subs are not street beater subs meant to be abused day in and day out trying to get a lot of SPL out of them.

I hate to say it, but maybe a pair of type R's?They can get alright loud, but sound like uber ***.

I gotta go check the mounting depth on the box, im not sure if its deep enough for the type R's or the w6v2's.

I haven't messed around with the settings because he said its tuned for the optimum sound and hes a memphis dealer and installer and he has been around their stuff for a LONG time so im sure he knows what he is doing. The subs arent as bad as im making them out to be they just arent loud at all and my sister wants something louder.

My type R's dont sound like ***. Matter of fact there one of the better subs I have heard. I have had alot. But for the mix I like that are pretty **** clean. I have had 9500MTX 12's, Kove armagedon u2' 15's,Orion H2 12's, and a bunch of others I dont feel like listing. For the money they are hard to beat. I would say the type r's or the Pioneer Premier 12" 3004's.
