So... we shredded one of my MT 18s last night.

We played the truck almost all night doing demos for people and finally one gave out!

The other three are fine -- I've been beating these since August with a 3000D @ 1/2 ohm each.

What it looks like is the dust cap gave up first and popped off... and that weakened the cone so it shredded. Then the triple joint failed and the coil shot back and was sitting against the back plate in the gap. I was able to pull it out so it can be re-built!

too bad we dont have nightshade 18s to put in there yet //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif
Indeed, I'll be re-building that MT for now until I re-do the wall.

Truck needs work before stereo changes... need a tire (one tire is wearing weird), an alignment, and a rear main seal.

We were demoing all night at the same HU volume level that I do SPL burps at -- so we were being a bit hard on them //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Awesome! I like how unaffected the coil looks.
Yep, it is in pretty well pristine shape besides the scuffs from being shot back into the gap with no suspension attached. It was still hot when I pulled it out about 30-40 minutes after the incident but looks relatively un-harmed thermally //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

if you have trouble getting a recone for it lmk ill talk to my homies on the inside
David is going to help me out -- he is the man after all //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Yes. Only thing is the leads will be encased in resin. Keep in mind that this is an assumption.

I agree with every one above. OFC is much better. Copper is a much better conductor than aluminum.

Speaker ratings are generally a thermal/mechanical limitation of the drivers. Music is dynamic, not continuous. During quiet periods a song, you...
