No, not at all but in all situations, not just this one. I dont feel the need to stick around and find out what happens. Once the situation is under control, im out.
Sorry that was not directed towards you or anyone in particular. I would probably not stick around either. Unless some reward was offered:up2somet:

I guess I will be the voice of reason on this page; I have a great deal of respect for the police, firemen, and teachers in general. They are overworked and underpaid for the job duties. Granted there are bad apples in every profession and the police have their share of corrupt, power horing pigs but in general they do us all a public service. It's time some of you grow up and show a little respect, especially you little pricks who would cheer the person fighting against the cop. We'll see one day when your daughter gets ***** or your wife gets robbed how much you'll want the police to come and help you then.
thank you

I have a rather dim view of police (for some good reasons), but that doesn't mean I would intentionally do anything to them.

There's a point when "helping" turns into "getting in the way". Use common sense to determine which one you're doing at the time.

i agree /w teachers and such, but police? shoot... my friend's house has been robbed numerous times, my house a few times, and what did the police do? come in, look around, yell at my mom for doing something wrong, she didnt know what to do and she was trying to help, and in the end, they didnt do shit..... and if a cop couldnt handle a 15 year old, then he should go back to the academy... imo

For all the shit a lot of you talk about cops, I don't see any of your ignorant ***** out there putting your life on the line day in and day out.

But, back to the original topic; I don't think you should be required to assist. If they want to encourage civilian assistance in situations like that, they should work off of the reward system rather than the punishment system.

I could understand (but not support) disciplinary action if say the officer was overpowered and being attacked and a bystander just stood and watched while the officer asked (or cried like a little bitch) for help..

So, hypothetically speaking; lets say you do help the officer, and in the act of assisting the officer you inadvertantly permanently injure the "suspect" (say....you break his back, paralyzing him from the waste down).

Can this suspect then sue you, the civilian, for injuring him?

That would be interesting to see a reward system to be emplaced. I think you would have to many people just jumping in and getting in the way like jack frost said, instead of just helping. Just because there is a chance of getting a reward.

RMSanger, I understand what you are saying, but should it be required by law, and you be punished if you dont?

And the guy that didnt help, its more of a human nature thing, I think anybody that saw somebody about to be killed (which this cop could have) no matter if hes a cop or whatever, would most likely try to help, if they could.
