should i upgrade to the DEH-P880PRS?

Yes. There are a few authorized dealers on here that sell Pioneer Premier online at decent prices so you get the full two year warrenty. It is a bit more than eBay though.
cool thanks, i'll keep it in mind. but i'm really not to worried about warranties. i have yet to ever use a warranty on anything. if it works out of the box i'm sure it'll be fine.

This is one product where you should care. There is a known RCA issue with this HU. There are extensive threads explaining the issue and how to fix it. I purchased authorized for this very reason. I have the group loop issue intermittenly. If it gets bad enough, I can send it in for repair. Trust me, I would buy authorized here. The eBay discount isn't enough.

hmmmm..... from what i have read and been told, the rca issues are from user error in the first place. i'll just make sure not to make those errors.

I don't know, I have seen a couple of experienced users complain of this problem. So I am with Flip on this one. The 880 is a dam nice looking HU and has a lot of very good features so it is a HU that many really like. However, it is not a unit that I would want to forgo a warranty on unless I was getting a very deep discount.

what kind of price am i looking at if i buy authorized? i can get it on ebay for just a couple dollars over 300. it'll include a warranty from the seller.

The discount isn't deep enough to warrent going through eBay on this one. You can PM xplicitACTS about the fix. He has a friend or whatever that repairs them for $75. So you can get a eBay one + the risk of $75 vs one authorized.

Sorry, can't help you there. Maybe Flip will chime in. But just so you know that I am not throwing internet BS around, I specifically remember Snoopdan mentioning that he had some issues. I know that he certainly knows how to hook a HU.

I would make a thread or search for authorized pioneer premier dealers.

6spdcoupe

audiojunkies

and maybe a few more. As for pricing, I am not a dealer. You can PM them though. It will be closer to MSRP vs. eBay though.

it's all cool. i have heard of the problems.

i just hate the thought of paying a couple hundred or so more just so in two years when the warranty runs out i can say "hey i just wasted that money to get a warranty i never used, i could have bought it for a lot less"

i'm just not a fan of paying for a warranty or buying extended warranties and such. thats just me.

To tell the truth, I would not pay that much more. Maybe $50 -- $80 or so? I don't know if that is realistic or not but that is just what I had in my mind.

yes. 880 is worth it. i find that it is hard to beat in its price range, especially since they go for about 225-250 used on the forums. for me though, i dont need the active capabilities of it because i already have a dsp that does that. so, i stick with nakamichi //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

yea if i can get it authorized with the full warranty for about 350 then yea why not. but i'm not gonna pay a hundred or so more. i'll risk it and if i have a problem fight the ebay seller or send it to pioneer to get fixed up. but i really doubt i'll have problems. it seems that most people don't. it's always easier to see the bad then the good.
