Should I Trade It

If you want reliability get a 2 stroke. When it comes time to rebuilt a 2 stroke compared to a 4 stroke it is way cheaper. Plus they're way easier to work on. WIth a 4 stroke you've gotta check the valves, cam chain, do more oil changes, change oil filters.
2 strokes just mix the gas and ride
this seems to be my experince also.

i ride dirtbikes and have a kx that has about 3 years on the top end (2 stroke) and im lookin at about $200 to have it rebuilt.

i like a 2 stroke for track/jumping but i want a 4 stroke for trail riding.

^Yeah top ends are less than like 200 bucks

And depending how bad a 4 stroke is when you need to rebuild it

This is from another forum:

Let's see...I've rebuilt many 250fers.

Here's a rough idea of one wih a slightly green hue.

Piston kit (Wiseco) $180

Gasket kit (Cometic) $65

Valves (OEM) $35ea (Pro Circuit) $350 for a pair

Valve spring kit (Faction) $265 (Pro Circuit) $355

Valve seals (OEM) $45/set

Timing chain (OEM) $35

Timing chain tensioner (OEM) $80

Usually the cheapest parts total is in the range of $700-800 for a good top-end rebuild. This doesn't account for worn cam journals, valve seats, crankshaft, or valve stem guides. I've done repair orders up to $2200 if a valve broke.

change the oil and put gas in it, grease the springs and oh change tires about every 4-5 months . Never had a problem with my raptor besides when I went on deployment and came back the factory battery was shot from sitting with no charge for so long. Maintenance on a banshee will be a little more, just moping around on it will foul the plugs.
Grease the springs wtf??? Most guys I see with 2 strokes that are fouling plugs are usually morons that try putting bigger gets in to make them faster, or idiots that don't under stand gas/oil ratios.

2 stokes vs 4 stroke in general with maintenance, the 2 stroke might have to be maintained a little more, as far as replacing rings and or top end rebuild. BUT maintenance on a 4stroke is more expensive, since you have a whole added cam/valve train in the motor. Banshees are fast, but they are not THAT fast. It's basically the same quad with different color cosmetics for over a decade, so it they are outdated machines imo. Like someone said earlier, 4 strokes are easier to ride, or easier to use all the power, and have a considerable more amount of torque, which helps in chugging gears in the woods. FI is easier to maintain than a carb and more reliable (once it's dialed in you shouldn't have to tough it again), but when something goes bad with FI it's usually a pita. but but personally I know very little about FI.

IMO...

2 strokes>old 4 strokes

Modern 4 strokes> 2 strokes

When comparing older 4 strokes as far as reliability, Honda has the best durability IMO.

I would take a banshee over the newer 4 strokers. I just like the 2 strokes in general, but now in california they really came down on them so it's just better to have 4 strokes...

Banshees are no longer made either btw, idk if that's been said or not i didnt look at the thread. The hard part about maintance about the banshee is the dual carbs, but if you're good at setting them correctly then that should not be a problem. Lots of mods for the banshees too.

MY warrior is a 95 and im looking for about the same year banshee, id take a blaster too but id want money with it or it would have to have some money in it.
I might be alone in this but here is a few thoughts:

I never once heard the Suzuki Z400 or 450R get mentioned which is odd. I have the Z400 and love every inch of it. Their biggest drawback is the rare need for valve adjustment and that is only when ridden too hard for too long.

I have also owned 2 strokers and several other 4 strokes.

I ran a small but worked up and surprisingly fast Honda 300ex set for trail racing,

A Kawasaki KFX400,which is powered by Suzuki,A Warrior,Blaster and just today hopped on a 660raptor with endless mods.

My experience, personally: The Z400(stock for now) I own right now takes the cake. I can outrun Honda's 450R in mid/top end and even the Raptor I rode today wasn't enough to convince me I'd rather have it(although it is a great ride)

Sure,it was faster at top end but it took forever to wind it out and there just wasn't enough extra power for the extra 260+/- cc engine to make it worth it for a hard to trail ride machine

To get back on topic, any reputable 2 stroke is a fun ride so long as you don't plan on lugging it or constantly hitting steep climbs.

For what amount of riding you submitted,I'd say a 2 stroke or a Suzki400/Honda 400ex would get you the most for your money.

BTW,getting a Suzuki 400will allow room for immense modification. They are moderately cheap to bulk up to and above the limits of any current 450R breeds out there...for cheaper than buying a stock 450R of nearly any model.
