should i get a nav unit or build a carputer?

well my pioneer avic n2 screen got stolen and im only left with the brain and wires. should i just replace the headunit or build a carputer?

i've always wanted to build a carputer but from what I've heard, you really need some type of headunit seperate from the computer because there aren't any sound cards that put out a strong enough signal. i could be wrong, but thats the conclusion I came to last time I looked into it.

i already have a pioneer mp680 from my old install. i think i could use that in conjunction with a carputer. i try looking through the carputer thread but i dont even know where to begin in that thread. anybody ever done a carputer before? any help?
