I'm deciding on an amp. Should I get a bigger amp that can run 1 ohm but run it at 2 ohm? Will it last longer than if I get a smaller amp and run it at 1 ohm?if I run the amp at a higher ohm load will it last longer? For example I'm looking at running a hf brz 2400.1 @ 2 ohms. 1700 rms or a brz 1700.1 @ 1 ohm. 1700 rms

It wont be easier on your cars electrical unless the 2400.1 is more efficient at 2 ohm than the 1700.1 at 1. Honestly I dont think it makes that much of a difference on amplifier life, as long as you have the correct electrical to support the amp, and the amplifier can handle the ohm load

Well considering running an amp at 2 ohms is more efficient than running an amp at 1 ohm, I would say it would be slightly easier on electrical. I agree that it shouldn't make a difference in the life of the amp itself running at 2 or 1. The smaller amp is probably going to be less expensive to repair or replace should something happen.

Thanks. But the $ is only $90 difference. And just like every1 else once I get started I probly won't b happy after awhile

Ill probly go with the bigger amp. Thanks for ur info

I'm trying to keep subs and amp to about 500. I figured spend more on amp now and if I'm not happy I can get a better sub(s). What do u suggest for an amp? $300 is my limit

From how im reading your thread, it seems like you already have a system but you're wanting to upgrade the amp. The real question would be is how are you going to go from 2 ohms down to 1 ohm? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif

If you already have the subs, what are they? Also whats your budget for an amp?

I do have a little system right now. Its a concept ca525m and a sony 10. Its gonna go in my womans car and I'm gonna upgrade. My budget is a round 300. Give or take a little. I have about 1000-1200 for everything and I know a new ho alt is needed

You can peice together a nice system with that $1200 that can get reasonably loud (way louder than your current system), and dont need to upgrade to a ho alt.
