Bear with me here, as I have a few questions...
Let me start with my amp specs: Rockford Fosgate R1200.1D (800 RMS @ 4 2 Ohm, 1200 RMS @ 1 Ohm)
I currently have 2 10" Dayton DCS255-4 (Roughly 200-250w RMS inside of the tubas) running in TAT Style Autotubas.
Notes: Due to size restraints I can not go more than dual 12s, so roughly a box that is 30" long. I also don't want to have to rob a bank to pay for new subs so I'd like to keep them at around $200 (preferably less) a piece. I have a 2000 Toyota Tundra Access Cab so my sound won't the best regardless because of limited cabin space, but I make due.
Questions:
1. What would make a worthwhile and noticeable upgrade? I have been looking at 12" Daytons that are 400W RMS @ 4 Ohms.
2. Would running my amp at 1 ohm be worth the extra heat and strain it'll encounter? I am all for this if getting 600 RMS out of 2 subs (or 1200 out of a single) would be significantly better.
3. Would getting a single large high output sub be better than dual 10"/12"? (In the limited cab size I have)
4. What are some of the quality (but not bank breakers) brands for subs? I have had incredible performance out of my current Daytons and have have 2 15" Daytons in my ancient home theater system and they are incredible speakers.
5. I would also like to put these new subs in a custom box, as long as the size is doable. I have seen these prebuilt boxes and they just seem too flimsy for me. I would rather do it myself out of quality wood and carpet it myself. What would be the steps in learning how to do this? Just use Google? Or are there some custom boxes designed around a specific set of sub combos you can all can recommend?
6. What exactly does a dual voice coil mean? For example, I saw a Dual 2 Ohm Voice Coil sub with an RMS rating of 600 Watts. How would I get 600W RMS out of this?
Thanks for bearing with me everyone!
EDIT: I know some of these questions are flirting with breaking the forums rules, but look at it as more of "In your Experience..." questions.
EDIT 2: I keep seeing Sound Qubed brand thrown around. I can get the HDS200 12" in 2 Ohm for a great price a piece, is this a brand that you guys can safely recommend?
